From 2020 to 2022 Apple shifted entirely from Intel’s x86 family of (CISC ISA) to their newly designed series of ARM (RISC ISA) SoC (System On the chip) called the M1 series. So, the decades-old debate CISC ISA vs RISC ISA is trying to ember inside the architecture field. And researchers are trying to find what could be the reason Apple switched its instruction set architecture. Our study indicates that the RISC being more power-efficient consuming less energy and having better thermal properties outranked the CISC. That could be a potential reason that Apple switched from CISC to RISC and from now on they’ll focus on developing their ecosystem around this architecture. ARM in IoT can increase the battery timing of these devices and can eliminate the need for a cooling fan, thus reducing the overall cost of the device. The energy consumption of Data centers and servers can be reduced 3x to 4x by using ARM chips as compared to x86 chipsets, a step towards green computing. The study also revealed that in the modern era power consumption and performance are two of the most important factors when designing or choosing an architecture. As people want their laptops and mobiles to have a battery that can last longer and computing power to run heavy applications. ARM design can fulfill demands for many years to come.
